Welcome to Stracathro Estates
Stracathro Estates LTD is a rural land based company based in Angus, on the east coast of Scotland. It is family owned but with outside directors.
With a turnover of £3.6 million, the company's principle activity is agriculture but power generation, through solar panels and a turbine, and residential lets play a significant role. We have two tenant farmers and forty residential properties, ranging from four bedroom farmhouses to two bedroom cottages. We let buildings for commercial use, and fields for horses and game rearing. We have an active sporting department, with salmon fishing on the North Esk, partridge and pheasant shoots and roe stalking.
We farm nearly 4,000 acres of arable crops, AD feedstock, greening, wild bird cover and forestry.
There are over 600 acres of woodland, both commercial and amenity, and over seventeen miles of maintained hedging. We have five miles of rivers and burns either wholly on, or contiguous to the land. All are buffer stripped to reduce run-off.
We take our environmental responsibilities seriously, and are proud of our recent 2023 accreditation with Wildlife Estates Scotland.
We believe strongly in the community and have developed 11 affordable houses, provide public amenities and worked to maintain essential local services such as Stracathro School.

Harvest 2015
Although later than the norm, harvest eventually started with a flourish and the usual flurry of activity on 8th August, with KWS Cassia Winter barley producing a very pleasing 8.9 tonnes per Hectare. At 17% moisture we thought harvest would be easy! Then the rain started and it was three days before we could harvest again, surprisingly the quality remained excellent with lovely bold bright coloured grain although the moisture had crept up to 20% and the straw was still quite green.
Thoughts on the 2015 Fishing Season
The Curate's egg would describe this year's fishing both at Stracathro and countrywide.

In October the Minister for the Environment. Climate Change and Land Reform visited Stracathro Estates, accompanied by Hugh Dignon and Linda Murray.
